New Advocates Complete CASA Training

LANCASTER, PA (March 21, 2019) – Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Lancaster County would like to extend their congratulations to the newest class of CASA volunteers, sworn in on March 20th by Judge Jeffrey J. Reich. The ceremony was held at Emerald Foundation, 2120 Oregon Pike, Lancaster, PA 17601.

The newly appointed CASA Volunteer Advocates join over 200 other dedicated community members who have been trained and are advocating for foster children in the county’s dependency court system. CASAs ensure that the children’s needs are recognized and best interests are considered both in the courtroom and in the community. They speak on behalf of children in the foster care system – ensuring they don’t get lost in an overburdened system.

Studies have shown that children with a CASA are more likely to find a safe and permanent home, spend less time in foster care, do better in school, and receive more help while in the foster care system.
The eight new CASAs are:

• AnnieRose Ansley, Lancaster
• Charles Blakinger, Lititz
• Kelley Greiner, Lititz
• Bonnie Horton, Lancaster
• Ellen St. Cyr, Lititz
• Leigh Trayer, Lititz
• Kim Wallover, Lancaster
• Rebecca Nauman, Mount Joy

CASA is central to fulfilling society’s most fundamental obligation by making sure a qualified, compassionate adult will fight for and protect a child’s right to be safe, to be treated with dignity and respect, and to learn and grow in the security of a loving family.
