CASA Volunteers Sworn In to Help Children

LANCASTER, PA (June 04, 2019) – On Thursday, May 30, Leslie Gorbey, Senior Judge, swore in fifteen Lancaster County community members as CASA volunteers – court appointed special advocates for abused and neglected children. Family and friends gathered in the ballroom at Emerald Foundation Community Campus, 2120 Oregon Pike, Lancaster to watch the volunteers take an oath promising to advocate for the best interest of the child.

CASA volunteers ensure that the children’s needs are recognized and best interests are considered both in the courtroom and in the community. Our new volunteers that now await assignment are:

• Donna Bucher, Manheim
• Lillie Cole, Bainbridge
• Jessica Cupani, Lancaster
• Marolyn Davenport, Lititz
• Jodi Feyock, Lancaster
• Jacqueline Francis, Lititz
• Rebecca Hickey, Lancaster
• Lisa McHenry, Lancaster
• Doris Russ, Salunga
• Jeff Sibbett, Lancaster
• Beth Torrance, Lancaster
• Lani Ward, Lancaster
• Jatae Winky, Coatesville
• Arthur Woods, Lititz
• Denise Yoder, Landisville

Once assigned, CASA volunteers meet regularly with the child and interview people in the child’s life: social workers, attorneys, teachers, doctors, and mental health professionals.

“Our volunteers remain the constant for these children, as everything else is changing around them," said Jessica Laspino, Executive Director of CASA of Lancaster County. "CASA’s champion without compromise for the child’s best interest.”
The next available advocate training session for CASA of Lancaster County begins in August 2018.
